With Spring's arrival, I am always looking to spice up my wardrobe without doing damage to my pocketbook. I wish I could afford to go out and buy a new Spring collection and maybe one day, but for now, I have to work with what I got. And honestly I kinda love it, my wardrobe is full of basic pieces that when taken care of will last for years maybe even longer. And isn't that what style is all about, not consumerism or the need to buy cheap clothes by the dozen. It's not good for you, the environment, or small business owners putting out quality products. With my little fashion rant aside, let's get to what's important... My Outfit!
Going out in the Spring is a tricky mistress especially at night in the midwest. Will the temperatures drop 10 degrees, how is the wind, rain, or even snow? =(
And if you get caught unprepared you are going to have a rocky night ahead of you. So I have figured out the ultimate going out outfit perfect for all occasions, drinks with girls, check, date night with the hubby, check, or going to a work function with clients, check, and even the dreaded blind date, check!
How you ask did I came up with such an outfit, well many say it's a gift, I chalk it up to plain awesomeness. =) So start from the top, a jeweled top, this blouse is great because I don't have to jazz it up it's already done for me, and Coco Chanel said it best, take one accessory off before you leave the door and your outfit will be perfect. And this top takes that step out, less is more. This blouse is made of a lightweight sheer material with short sleeves which is great for layering and breathability when hoping from inside to outside or place to place. Everyone has that perfect pair of jeans that fits like no other, and for me these are it. Plus no matter what happens at work or home they always look great and give you the confidence to take on anything. I love a mid-waist skinny jean in dark or black, they help create the illusion of height (which I need all the help I can get) and hug my lady curves in all the right places.
The blazer, this may be my favorite piece in my closet, I just love it so much. Besides having a classic black blazer everyone needs a tweed or patterned blazer in their closet, it's an absolute must-have item. Mine is from Anthropologie and is lined in a rose gold stain that I always showcase by turning up my cuffs. One because I always show my wrists and forearms, another trick to make me look longer than I am. Two, the lining inside is so pretty it gives another element (a small detail) that makes the outfit look a little sharper and put together.
The ankle boots, I have been wearing these for the past two seasons and I won't be stopping anytime soon, well maybe summer... maybe. For me, they are the perfect ankle boots, black suede. Please make sure to treat your suede and leather boots before taking them out into the elements. It's super important to protect them so they don't get ruined. Go to your local Target or Nordstrom Rack and grab a protectorate or take them to a cobbler and have them do it. I know it's money up front but you will have a great pair of shoes for a lifetime if you take care of them properly. These boots are great they have a 2.5-inch block heel perfect for all day or night wear. They are awesome for mixing and matching with different outfits and the fringe is so in right now, the fringe offers a great wow factor that everybody loves. I am always getting a ton of compliments on them. But for me, they have to be comfortable or I am not wearing them, life is too short for my feet to be killing me all night.
Add accessories to finish off the look, a large black envelope clutch is still everything in my book. It's simple and chic plus I can carry what I need in it, even a pair of walking flats (city girls know what I am talking about). Jewelry is simple, a large faced watch, two or three bangles, and a stud earring. The outfit is now complete and you are ready for any occasion. You Are Welcome Ladies, haha.
