I do not know about you but I always see these gorgeous red carpet makeup looks and I wish I could do my makeup that way. Well with a little help from Neutrogena® and their new line of Healthy Skin Makeup, I have recreated Nicole Kidman's red carpet look from The Emmy's and I have to say it was super easy and fun.
Please let's remember I am not a professional make-up artist, I am a writer, a mom, a wife... not an expert. =) So grab a glass of bubbly and let's glam it up.
Now before I started applying the makeup I set a base for my skin. I always use a serum, a moisture, and a primer, plus I colored in my eyebrows. For me, I don't walk out of the house without doing my eyebrows otherwise I look like a small child. =( So now is when the fun begins. For me, I like to start with my eyes, one because if any eyeshadow dust falls under my eyes or checks I can just brush it off without wrapping off a layer of foundation. You can start either with foundation or the eyes, I think its a personal choice.
One product for me that was a game changer is Neutrogena® Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector Broad Spectrum which you can wear alone or under eyeshadow and makeup. So the first step after eyebrows is putting on this product, I use it under my eye and on my lids as an eyeshadow primer. This stuff is a total game charger especially if you have under eye circles. Neutrogena® does a great job at creating products that not only go on easy and takes out the guesswork of makeup. Their eyeshadow color palettes are super simple and all you have to do is follow the very simple 4 step process for perfect red carpet eyes. And if you are really helpless when it comes to make-up there are even step by step instructions on the back of the palette. I finish my eyes with a nice coat of mascara on my top and bottom lashes and my eyes are done.
Next is the foundation and the order of how you apply it is the very important part. I take a wet beauty blender and pour a small amount on the back of my hand. Then I lightly tap in my blender and start on the side where my nose and cheek meet. I don't start in the corner of my eye because I have already added an under eye primer so I don't want too much product build up under my eye. (not a good look) From there I blend up and out from my cheeks all the way to my ears. Then I go from the bridge of my nose up to my forehead and hairline. I finish from the bow of my lips and along my jawline. Making sure not to create too much of a product build up, it's a less is more situation, trust me. Nobody wants that cakey makeup look, let your naturally beautiful skin tones shine through. Next, I add in my concealer under my eyes and any spots that need a little extra coverage, pat with your blender again up and out to create a smooth finish.
After you can add a highlighter to the top of your cheekbones, Cupid’s bow, chin and down the center of your nose bone. Then, swipe a contour powder along the sides of your nose and along your forehead near the hairline. Then do the hollows of your cheekbones starting by your ears and about halfway down the cheek. Again it's really important to blend everything out for a sophisticated and natural look. I was always taught that makeup should enhance your natural beauty not cover it up.
With highlighter and contouring powder done I move on to blush. When I was younger I really never used blush but now the slight pop of color on my checks makes a huge difference. haha, Youth. I tap lightly on my blush palette, tap off the excess and right on the ball of my checks lightly swiping outwards. It's important not to get carried away with blush otherwise your makeup ends up looking clownish. With any leftover blush, I lightly sweep it on my forehead and chin for just a hint of color.
Let's move on to the lips, the lips for me are everything and really elevate a look. Plus this look is all about the glam! Using the Neutrogena® Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Shine in Velvet Wine, I start with the tip of the brush and I place it in the center of my lip, right at the Cupid's bow where I draw an X. So if you start at the top right of your Cupid's bow, draw down the bottom left of the lip and repeat, top left down to the bottom right. And then start at the top of the Cupid's bow and follow your lip line around. Once you have a solid outline fill in the inner lip, blot and you are set. To set the look, brush on a translucent powder and you are ready for a glamours night out. You can also add a finishing spray for that 'just-applied' look all night long. It's a great step if you are going dancing or taking a lot of photos. And whats great is you can say goodbye to any oil build up, makeup creasing, fading, and transfer. For me, it's a no-brainer, as a girl you spend all this time doing your makeup you might as well make it last.
In the comments below let me know what you think about this red carpet ready look. Until next time... Pop Fizz Clink Cheers!
