Living so close to beautiful hiking trails I had the cool idea for my wonderful husband and me to sneak away for the night and enjoy a couple's camping getaway. I will say that I haven't camped in 25 years so I knew we should start out small and close to home. Lucky for us there are beautiful campsites right outside the city. We chose to camp near the Columbia River Gorge for their beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails. We snuck away in the early afternoon to hike the Oneonta Gorge Trail. Even before the hike started you are greeted with a gorgeous waterfall and resting pool. After taking in all the beauty and snapping a few selfies, we were off up the mountain. There are a few paths to hike and we saved the best for last, Oneonta Gorge up to Horsetail Falls. We hiked up about a mile and a half and I must say the sights are breathtaking, truly amazing. From the side of the trail, you overlook the Columbia River and mountain scapes.
Once we reached Horsetail Falls another large wading pool with beautiful rock formations and a cave greeted us. From the waiting pool, the over flow moves down and into creek beds and into a slow moving river bed. Being the adventurers that we are, we moved down into the slow moving river beds and found a beautiful place to sit, relax and enjoy our time together. I have to say I felt like we were teenagers swimming in the pool, climbing down into the river beds and splashing each other on a hot summer day.
For completing our day of hiking trails and to celebrate our first camping trip, my insanely considerate husband packed a bottle of wine for us to share. He chose a bottle of Palm Bay Sheep Thrills Pinot Grigio® which couldn't have been more appropriate after a day of nature thrills. Sitting around the camp enjoying our meal, a lovely glass of wine and spending time together with no electrics or kids =) Our glass of Pinot Grigio had floral notes which paired beautifully with the setting sun. Tropical fruit aromas from the wine balanced our cheese plate and shrimp cocktail amazingly. It was the perfect night away, I have never seen so many stars or heard so many unknown animal sounds... haha I must say I think I may only be able to do one night in a tent sleeping on the ground... I really do not like walking to a shared bathroom at night. Glamping may be more my style.
After another day of hiking and enjoying the trails, we headed home. I couldn't wait to get into a hot bath to relax and soothe my sore muscles. My super sweet husband worked his magic again and drew me a huge bubble bath with lavender Epsom Salt, citrus scented candles and oh yeah, a glass of red wine. If the moment couldn't get any cuter he got the Palm Bay Sheep Thrills Red Blend® to go with our nature thrills themed weekend. I spent some time enjoying the silence with this smooth operator and letting my sore muscles melt away. With ripe berry aromas plus notes of cherry, rich plum and spices the Sheeps Thrills Red Blend danced on my taste buds. I was able to take some time to reflect on what a great weekend we had and how I couldn't wait to get back out to nature... in about another month or so. haha=) As soon as I started to relax my adventure once again begins... the family adventure. It's thrill seeking, seat of your pants living with crazy loving adventure. I am so lucky to be part of it.
